Why choose Nerja?...sunshine, light, water, nature, exquisite tempertaures, subtropical climate, beaches, wild mountain ranges, deep-sea fishing, and a beautiful bay protected by the cliffs of Maro...here are a few of the pleasures that this picturesque town can offer you.
One can perceive the beauty of Nerja, and come to fall in love with it, merely on first sight.  However, to glean its depths, to appreciate its sensitivity, to listen to its voice and feel its heartbeat, this is reserved for those who take time to get to know it....and it is always worth the effort.
On the eastern side of the Costa del Sol (Málaga-Andalucía), lies this small town steeped in the fishing and agricutural tradition.  In contrast to other towns where touristic development has detracted from their character, Nerja has always known how to uphold its charm since ancient times.  Its old quarter, its winding streets.  Its beaches and small alcoves.  Its natural park.  The infamous Nerja caves.  The open dispostion of its inhabitants.  All of this makes Nerja the envy of many other Andalucian towns.
As you have decided to visit our town, we honestly recommend the following things to you:
- Stroll through the streets of the old quarter:
Walking through Calle Pintada, Calle Cristo and Calle Carabeo, as well as the Balcon de Europa, you will find the typical whitewashed Nerja houses with their ornate balconies.  These streets are full of shops and are pedestrian, so the walk will be easy and pleasant.  Don’t forget to stop by one of the typical bars to partake of the tapas (small bite-size specialties that often come complimentary with your meal), while ordering from the wide selection of dishes that are on offer at the local restaurants.   If you wish we can advise you on specific places.
-Beaches and alcoves:
Nerja offers the visitor a wide selection of beaches for all tastes.  To give you an example:
We recommend visiting the cliffs of Maro-Cerro Gordo.  Please keep in mind that this area is a protected natural park and requires you to be respectful of the surroundings.
Sierra Tejeda Almijara: Hiking and some aquatic activities. The renown Rio Chillar (River Chillar) route (Los Cachorros).
Cliffs of Maro-Cerro Gordo: Isolated beaches, nudist beaches, deep-sea diving in protected areas of singular beauty.
-The Nerja caves: a stop you should not miss.  Prehistoric caves, over 25000 years old, and one of the most extensive and monumental caves in all of Spain.  Every year, in July, the caves are the site of a music and dance festival where some of the most prominent national and interntional names in music come to perform (Paco de Lucia, Rostropovich, Montserrat Caballé...).
All of this, we assure you, is not the end of what Nerja can offer you in the way of attractions.  Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any queries.  We look forward to meeting you.
